SWTOR Strategy
The "Core" Group (continued)
Jan 12 2012 10:38 AM | Airborne Commando in SWTOR Strategy
Building on the "Tank"
There are generally two flavors of tanks present in some battles. The "Main" tank who generally handles taking the main boss and trash (enemies with no significant value inside a fight) outside of a boss fight and the "off" tank who during a major or pivotal battle with a boss will be responsible for aggroing any adds (trash enemies that join the fight with the boss) and keeping them distracted while the dps kill off the adds. This will usually require a second healer who will keep the off tank and dps alive, while the other healer keeps the main tank alive and well. This also works well if the main tank has to leave during the middle of a instance. When not needed as a tank the off tank assists as a dps until needed.
"All" characters
Some important things to look at when building your character is to check for interrupts which stop an enemy attack charging up, you don't have to be a particular type of character to prevent an enemy attack, as long as you have the interrupt don't be afraid to use it!

The "Core" Group
Jan 09 2012 04:39 PM | Airborne Commando in SWTOR Strategy
Alright, we are still a fresh faced pimply little virgin guild with no structure or setup, and I'm going to work on solving that. As this is not a dictatorship, the details can be suggested for adjustment by the founding members. As of right now my suggestion is we go the Republic faction with the guild title of "Pegasus Team". Starting off we will need at least one person who focuses their character on being a tank, one who focuses his character on being a healer (at this stage I'm willing to do this role, unless somebody else really wants it and we don't have the entire core group), a ranged and a melee DPS (Damage). I realize there may be people here who have experience with MMORPG's, I ask you to stick with me as this will be basic for those who aren't familiar. More or less these core group members will go on to be leads for those that fall under their class, to hopefully coach and assist others of their roles. Jordan and myself will be the team leads, any problems within the guild please come to us if you can't sort it out with one another.
Now for some of those who are new to MMORPGs and some of the concepts associated with them, here is a bit of a break down on how a group would work in a area more difficult than one person could accomplish.
1. The "Tank" is the most heavily armored player in the group who has one task, piss of all the enemies and keep them attacking him or her. When in a fight the tank should be taking the direct damage from the enemy. There is generally more to it than that but for simplicity and introductory purposes this is what you need to know for now.
2. The "Healer" is responsible for keeping the "Tank" alive, as the tank will most likely be under constant and heavy damage the healer will have their hands full keeping the tank from tanking and dying against a foe or group of foes. The healer will attend to the other players in the group as they can however other players in the group should be avoiding taking damage from the enemy to the best of their ability, to allow the healer on keeping the tank alive. Again there is going to be more to it than this, but for introductory purposes this is what ya need to know.
3. The "DPS" both ranged and melee are the damage makers, they are responsible for killing the enemy in a timely and efficient manner, again in respect to the tank and healer the DPS role characters should avoid attacking anything but the tanks target. The exception to the rule generally being if a rogue mob attacks the healer, in which case a DPS should attempt to aggro the mob and lead it toward the tank. While the Tank and Healers play critical roles in the group it is the DPS that makes or breaks it. As we expand this is what we will need the most of, a healthy balance of melee and ranged DPS. You only need one or two Tanks and Healers per larger sized group however your going to need to fill the rest of it with DPS.
I will be expanding on this and adding images to help with the introduction for those who aren't familiar with MMORPG larger sized group actions. For those veterans who wish to contribute I'm open to suggestions.
